Cancer is a disease in which cells in the body grow out of control; The most frequent cancer diseases in women are breast cancer, cervical cancer, lung cancer and colorectal cancer. Screening test can be of help to know if a person is having, or will hove cancer. Although the cause of breast cancer is still unknown, certain risk factors - gender, family history, genetics, and personal history of breast cancer - are linked to that disease. Mamography with or without breast scan are helpful screening tools for breast cancer.

Cervical cancer can be caused by HPV(Human Papilloma Virus); a virus that is responsible for genital warts. HPV is spread easily by skin to skin contact during sexual activity; it is so common that most of the population gets it in some period of life but usually there are no symptoms early after the infection. There are many types of HPV, most of them can go by its own, however some may cause cervical cancer.

Cervical cancer can be prevented by HPV vaccines, Early detection of cervical cancer or precancerous condition is possible through cervical smear test and colposcopy All sexually active women should have regular cervical screening test (Pap or LBC ), which is a cytological examination that detects abnormalities in the cells , but does not diagnose cancer. You will have to see the gynaecologist to have the smear done and to have a closer look at your cervix when the smear result predicts a potential problem, by colposcopy, which is a microscopic examination of the cervix and the vulva.

Colposcopy and cytology (smear test) represents the "gold standard" in early detection of cervical cancer. Both procedures can detect pre-malignant lesions and cervical cancer with the certainty of 99%.
