While skin is one of the very precious body parts every person should care for, it’s doesn’t always come on top of our priority lists.

Getting educated about your skin type and learning the right habits to care for it is essential to help prevent any dryness or serious skin conditions.

Despite the common belief, skin care is not time-consuming and once learned will come naturally like brushing your teeth.

Here are some tips from the Skin Specialists of Drs. Nicolas & Asp Centers.

  • Limit Sun Exposure

Living in Dubai especially during summer time can mean being exposed to lots of direct ultraviolet rays which can be harmful for your skin and may result in skin pigmentation, spot formation and sometimes even skin growths. Using skin care protects to limit ultraviolet rays is very important while avoiding staying under the sun for long times especially between 10am till 3 pm. Long-sleeved pants and shirts can also help protect your skin from direct sun rays. Tanning beds can be just as harmful as sitting under direct sunlight.

  • Stay Hydrated

It’s actually very surprising when you know how important water is to your skin.  Drinking water regularly is the key to a healthy skin and to keep its pliability.

Although exposing your skin to water might sound harmless, however if done for long times, it can actually dry out your skin. That’s why opt for warm, short showers rather than too hot ones. It’s also very important to use the right moisturizing cream after your showers to keep your skin strong, moist and healthy.

  • Take Health Precautions

It’s a fact that we are surrounded by a lot of germs in our environment. Skin conditions like lip sores, acne and others are actually a result of germ exposure.

Taking the right skin protection precautions is mandatory to keep the germs away. Make sure you don’t share your personal items like lipsticks and tooth brushes. Drinking from the same glass/bottle is not a right habit and as much as you can, don’t allow your fingers to touch your face during the day, preferably only after being washed properly.

  • Use Gentle Skin Care

Washing your face is an exercise that can be done multiple times per day. That’s why the technique with which you wash your face is very important. Choosing the right soap, the motion of washing and the use of moisturizer afterwards are all factors that affect your skin health.

You need to wash your face with warm water and a mild cleanser, afterwards massage your face with a small washcloth, using a circular motion. Later you need to rinse thoroughly to make sure to remove all soap and debris. While drying your skin don’t rub, but rather pat gently and finally put a facial moisturizer.

  • Know Your Skin

You need to pay attention to any skin changes that occur in your whole body. Change in a mole, recurrent rashes or growths need to be attended to immediately and requires a dermatologic consultation by a specialist.
